Echostar to rollout PocketDish

According to Investor's Business Daily, Echostar is set to roll out it's own portable video player which will integrate with it's DVR and satellite products. The report mentions that the product called "PocketDish" will be produced by Archos, which already sells similiar products.

I have my doubts that this product will make much of an impact on the market, but it may convince Echostar subscribers who are already in the market for a portable player to purchase PocketDish over some other competitive products to ensure compatibility.

Dish Network fails to mention that the PocketDish is on 100% compatible with only one of their receivers. The receiver sells for an additional $799.00.

Currently, the PocketDISH is capable of high speed transfers of standard definition content recorderd via USB2.0 only from the DishNetwork Model 942 HD DVR satellite receiver. The model 942 is available for $699 for existing Dish network customers, and as a $249 upgrade for new Dish network Customers. Additionaly, the AV502E and AV700E PocketDISH models can also do real time recordings from many media source including both Satellite and CableTV.

It has been reported, that in the near future, the PocketDISH will also be able to high speed transfers via USB 1.0 from the model 522 and 625 DVR receivers. These are available for free to qualified new and existing DishNetwork customers.

I PURCHASED THE AV700E FROM ECHOSTAR FOR 599.00 ON FEB 13. ONLY TO FIND OUT IT WAS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE 522 WHICH I HAVE. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF THIS PROBLEM THEY ONLY SAID I NEEDED A DISH NETWORK DVR WITH A USB YET THERE WAS NO MENTION OF THIS PROBLEM THEY ONLY SAID I NEEDED A DISH NETWORK DVR WITH A USB. OF COURSE YOU CAN RECORD THROUGH THE RCA CORD. YET THAT IS REAL TIME RECORDING NOT THE FIVE MINUTES THEY ADVERTISE.
WHEN I CALLED A FEW DAYS LATER TO RETURN IT I WAS TOLD THERE WOULD BE A WORKING PATCH FOR THE USB PORT ON THE 16th OF MARCH. SO I KEPT IT NOW THAT DAY HAS COME AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW ABOUT IT THEY ARE TRYING TO LEASE ME A NEW BOX FOR 299.00 OR SELL IT FOR 700.00. I THINK THIS IS NOT ONLY OUTRAGEOUS BUT CLOSE TO CONSUMER FRAUD.
